Stop Repetitive Data Entry from Wasting Advisor Time
Ask any senior advisor what they wish they had more time for. Client conversations. Planning work. Business development. Ask them what they actually spend their afternoons on. A disconcertingly common answer involves updating records in three different systems that all store the same information but do not share any of it.
This is not a character flaw. Fidelity’s 2025 benchmarking study found that advisors spend 59% of their working time on non-client-facing activities. Repetitive data entry is one of the largest contributors to that figure. And unlike the work that genuinely requires a skilled professional’s judgment, data entry is a tax on that time that should not exist.

Where the Entry Points Are
New client intake is typically the largest. A prospect becomes a client, and their information is collected by someone on the team – then typed into the CRM, entered separately into the financial planning tool, and typed again into the custodian account application. The same person’s name, address, date of birth, and investment objective appear in three places because three tools need it and none of them are connected.
Meeting updates are the second. After every client review, notes are logged in one place, changes to the financial plan are updated in another, and any account modification is entered separately into the portfolio system. One conversation creates three separate entry events.
Performance data creates a third. Numbers from the portfolio management platform are copied into the reporting template by hand. Figures from one system become inputs into another, entered by someone who is paid for their financial expertise and is instead doing data transcription.
The Integration Answer – Without the Jargon
Integration means the tools talk. When a client’s address changes in the CRM, the financial planning tool receives the update automatically. When a new client is onboarded through a digital intake form, the CRM record, the financial plan, and the compliance record are all created from the same submission. No one re-enters anything.
Most advisory firms already own the tools that can communicate this way. The tools were purchased separately, at different times, configured for individual use rather than as a connected system. Building the connections requires configuration work, not new software purchases.
A bidirectional sync between the CRM and the financial planning tool alone can eliminate two to four hours per advisor per week of manual entry, according to firms that have completed this integration through Enzigma’s process.

How to Identify Your Most Expensive Entry Points
Map your three most frequent advisor workflows from end to end. Client onboarding. Quarterly review preparation. Annual meeting follow-up. Walk through each step and mark every moment where a person types information that was already recorded somewhere.
Each marked step is a connection to build. Start with the workflow that runs most often and carries the highest time cost. Build one connection. Measure the return in hours per week. Then build the next one.
Automated onboarding removes the most visible entry point for most firms. Blog 12 in this series covers that process in detail. It is the right starting point for most practices.

Senior advisors are the most expensive people in the firm. Spending their afternoons on data entry is not inevitable. It is a choice the firm is making by default, and it is reversible. The tools that eliminate this work are already in most advisory stacks. Getting them to talk to each other is the step most firms have simply never taken.
